[POTW: 2] Mesh Mashup: Concept Generation ... A remix ft. Danny Devito.
The last week's assignment was to generate and create minimum of 10 object concepts through Rhino 7 using at least two components sourced from Thingiverse.com for each of the concepts. Keeping in mind the topic of Remix Culture or Read-Write Culture and the new relationships formed by mixing and meshing the choice of objects for the final designs.
Objects can be defined as something material that can be perceived or experienced by the senses, but objects can also be thought provoking, emotional, or attention grabbing. With that in mind, is it not to say that objects; the-everyday-objects / the-over-looked-yet-meticulously-curated-objects / and the -curated-objects - all share the same likeness and harmony as by what's defined as art?
What happens when an audience, creators, and communities; take those objects and re/builds, re/writes, and encourages the creative process towards a participatory and collaborative culture? Remix or read-write (RW) culture is a newer phenomenon with the digital age, but not a new concept. Remix culture and our current society has moved away from an analog '1 way flow' of 'producers/manufacturers' to 'consumers' and the passive experience of consumption, or "Read-only" (RO) culture, to an active experience. This active experience is defined by 'prosumers' and a 2 way flow of production / consumption. The then consumers of yesteryear's 1 way flow are now their own producers and contributors - taking part through interactive participation and creation, opening up opportunities and endless possibilities by revising, editing and combining existing mediums to create something new. Some examples of RW culture are street art and graffiti, folklores, open-sourced software, music, game mods., recipes, memes, gifs, parodies, tiktok, etc.
Yet I dare ask, where does the line blur in remixing? As remix can and does show the nuances of cultures, histories, and practices, what happens if the remixing in question holds an echo chamber and feedback loop, or disrupts the status quo?
Always running late.
The concept for this was based on how time will always catch up with you, esp. if you're running late. An alarm clock with a threatening aura.
